The open-source organization behind Hearth and BenixOS. Apache-2.0 licensed, sells nothing, forkable by anyone — including us.
SlashBuilder is structured the way the Apache Software Foundation hosts Kafka and Spark: two peer projects, neither subordinate to the other.
- Hearth — the open protocol for distributed personal resources. 9P-inspired: Plan 9's addressing model, reapplied to a household instead of a data center. Capability-grants instead of accounts; a thin wire contract instead of a platform.
- BenixOS — the operating system built around Hearth. A spiritual successor to two lineages: Plan 9 for its distributed-systems bones, and BeOS for its Kit-model architecture — a kernel of composable Kits with stable APIs, without inheriting any BeOS code, ABI, or compatibility tax. Runs on Thunderhead-class hardware, the general term for a home-server appliance — the way "NAS" or "router" name a category, not a product.
Storage underneath both: bitchain,
a content-addressed binary versioning scheme (BLAKE3, FastCDC chunking,
(hash, context) addressing) that keeps integrity structural and
keyless, independent of who's hosting the bytes.
Quickring is the commercial layer built on what SlashBuilder publishes — software, services, and hardware, sold under its own name. Nothing here requires it.
