Open Interface Engineering, Inc

Based in Sarasota, Florida, we're building the tools and frameworks that make interface design engineering accessible to everyone.

Open Interface Engineering

Eco-engineering company reducing global compute energy cost by 90% or more.

We build developer tools where every operation — every build, every query, every deploy — reports its energy cost in joules. Not tokens. Not seats. Not abstract pricing units. Physics.

What We Build

coding.openie.dev — Five energy-metered IDEs on one platform:

IDE Domain Description
Lux Web Replaces the HTML/CSS/JS/TS ecosystem with a single language. Ships native + WASM.
Joule Systems Systems language with formal verification, energy budgets per function, and WebGPU compute.
Arc General Purpose Every programming language — Python, Rust, Go, C++, Java, COBOL, Fortran, and 50+ more.
Data Data Science Notebooks with energy receipts per cell. Python, R, Julia, SQL with ML pipeline metering.
DevOps Infrastructure Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, Ansible, CI/CD — all as a queryable infrastructure graph.

How It Works

  • Local-first: the app ships with a built-in AI model. Most tasks run on your machine — no cloud, no cost.
  • Cloud when needed: frontier AI, collaboration, and deployment are available on demand.
  • Pay for energy: you only pay when cloud infrastructure is used. Typical bill: $1–$10/month.

Five Interface Tracts

Every system fails at its boundaries. We address all five:

  1. Data — Protocols, formats, encoding, timing, API contracts
  2. Energy — Power delivery, voltage domains, thermal management, EMC
  3. Material — Mechanical fits, material compatibility, environmental specs
  4. Logistics — Assembly, routing, serviceability, manufacturing constraints
  5. Supply Chain — Sourcing, lifecycle, procurement, vendor constraints

Public Projects

The substrate behind the platform is also available as standalone tools:

Project What it is Install
flow-g Typed FunctionGraph IR for heterogeneous inference — CPU + Apple Silicon Metal + WGPU + AMX cargo install flowg
lux-lang Reactive, energy-aware language compiling to flowG cargo install openie-lux
jmax Math-native language replacing MATLAB / Julia / R / Mathematica cargo install jmax
joule-lang Self-hosted energy-aware language with compile-time budgets cargo install joulec
jouledb Energy-metered database — HDC primitives, joules per query cargo install jouledb
pattern-lang Pattern catalog + edge-first AI cascade runtime see repo

All distributed under BSL-1.1 (converts to Apache-2.0 four years post-release). Examples under Apache-2.0.
