This PR contains various improvements cherry-picked from #406. It deliberately does not contain the TextureView refactor.

Depends on flowkey/swift-android-toolchain#22

@ephemer It would be possible to split this PR into smaller more meaningful PRs. I can do that if you think it makes more sense

hey @ephemer , I pushed 5e2dc17 to fix deinit of the player with the new RN architecture. Not sure why this didn't break with the old arch, maybe the deinit was not called properly?

btw, should we merge these changes? I think we battle tested them for quit some time in production.

There was a branch with some things that didn’t work so well. If you’re happy with this state let’s merge. Thanks @michaelknoch !
