Messaging new users does not properly open DM/update sidebar

Description

When messaging a new user, the current flow is unintuitive and requires extra steps.

Issues

1. Starting a new DM

   • Clicking to message a new user redirects to another page.
   • However, it does not automatically open a new DM with that user.
   • Instead, you must manually search for them in the in-app messaging page to start a conversation.

2. Sidebar not updating

   • After messaging a new user, the left sidebar does not refresh automatically.
   • You need to manually refresh the page for the new conversation to appear.

3. Search state issue

   • When clicking on a new person from the search, the user remains “stuck” in the search field.
   • Expected behavior: Once you start a DM, the person should:
     • Open in a new DM window.
     • Appear in the sidebar.
     • Disappear from the search field (without needing to manually clear it).

Expected Behavior

• Clicking “Message” on a new user should immediately:
  • Open a new DM thread.
  • Update the left sidebar with the new conversation.
  • Clear the search field automatically.
