Greek-Gregorian Readings Divergent from both Antiochian and GOARCH sources

Hi! First, thank you for your amazing work!

I was looking into whether I could replace the data I got from Goarch with your API, and I found that the information on the reading diverges from both antiochian.org and goarch.org.

Here's a write-up of what I found. At first, I thought antiochian.org just had different readings, but when I checked a few mismatches on their site, the readings on antiochian.org were identical to those on goarch.org. Fasting genuinely diverges between the two. I'm not sure what the best way to mitigate that is besides recording both. 19 Headlines genuinely diverge, but I don't think that's a big deal personally.

There are 45 divergent reading fields on 44 dates because both the Epistle and Gospel differ on 2026-05-18. Of the 45 reading fields, 42 use the same book and nearby passage but differ in verse coverage. Three use a different passage: the Gospel on 2026-04-10, 2026-12-30, and 2026-12-31.

Method

• Scripture comparison searches the complete Orthocal readings[] list by source type. Extra Orthocal readings do not count against Orthocal. A difference remains only when the normalized GOARCH reference has no equivalent in the full Orthocal Epistle or Gospel list.
• Reference normalization handles book names and abbreviations, ordinal forms, punctuation, dots versus colons, semicolons versus commas, whitespace, and continuous cross-chapter notation. Different verse coverage remains a real difference.
• Fasting comparison uses abstention sets instead of labels. It compares meat, fish, dairy, eggs, wine, and oil restrictions.
• Headline comparison searches Orthocal's summary_title, titles, feasts, saints, service_notes, reading descriptions, and story titles. It normalizes spelling, transliteration, and common equivalent labels.

Pattern assessment

The remaining reading differences are mostly pericope-boundary differences, not absent readings. Forty-two of 45 fields add, omit, or extend verses within the same passage. Those may be legitimate GOARCH and Orthocal editorial choices, but the frequency is too high to treat as the documented approximately four Greek-versus-Slavic days without clerical review.

The three different-passage cases need the closest review. Orthocal gives a composite Passion Gospel on Holy Saturday, 2026-04-10, while GOARCH gives Matthew 27:62-66. On 2026-12-30 and 2026-12-31, GOARCH is in Mark 10 while Orthocal is in Mark 11. The December pair looks like a one-day lectionary sequence shift. The Holy Saturday case may reflect a different service or editorial selection rather than bad data.

Fasting differences form repeated rule patterns. Nine ordinary fast days allow wine and oil in GOARCH while Orthocal's plain Fast resolves to a stricter abstention set. Nine Apostles Fast dates allow fish in GOARCH while Orthocal permits at most wine and oil. Several Nativity Fast dates have the same kind of mismatch. This looks more like a Greek-rubric mapping or override problem than isolated calendar exceptions.

Only three headline differences remain. Orthocal does not expose GOARCH's Phocas commemoration on 2026-07-23 or the GOARCH forefeast labels on 2026-12-08 and 2026-12-22 in any checked field. The two December cases may be editorial-priority differences. A priest should decide whether the labels must appear for Greek users.
