Plugin failes to load

Starting a few days ago, the plugin no longer loads when I open StreamController. Reinstalling StreamController and the plugin didn't help.

Idk how much this plugin is maintained, but I'm planning to look into this soon, so I'll post what I find here.

Fixed by editing ~/.var/app/com.core447.StreamController/data/plugins/com_core447_MediaPlugin/main.py and changing the settings module import from

from settings import...

to

from .settings import...

This doesn't seem like the right fix, this sounds more like something broke on your configuration. Can you provide logs from ~/.var/app/com.core447.StreamController/data/logs/logs.log in a state where the plugin is broken so we can understand what's broken?

Here's the log file. The only line I see that relates to this plugin is the same line I shared in the original post, but I might be missing something. If I had to guess, the name settings may conflict with something that already exists, hence why it works when you add a dot to specify the same directory. I've always found python imports to be annoying to work with, so I wouldn't be surprised if a "settings" package popped up out of nowhere and broke everything.

This log doesn't show the plugin failing to load, it just shows the plugin never even trying to load. Can you run the following from a terminal, it will give us more verbose logging:

flatpak run com.core447.StreamController 2>&1 | tee ~/StreamController.log

Verify the plugin fails to load, and then upload the StreamController.log file from your home folder

Here's the log. The error on line 11 originates from main.py of this plugin, the line where it tries to import from the settings module. It fails to find it.

I've had the same cannot import name 'PluginSettings' from 'settings' error in the logs and no media buttons on the deck. I removed a bunch of unused plugins: 2 different Spotify controllers, Discord and VS Code. Restarted StreamController and the issue is resolved. Can't say exactly which one caused conflict.

I'm not currently using it, but I have the com_ReneLu_spotifyControl plugin installed. Looking at its source code, it also has a settings module with a PluginSettings class. If removing it fixed the issue, maybe something is conflicting with the imports. The plugin was also updated a month ago, so maybe something in that update is causing it. Personally, I think it's not a great idea to use the name settings for a module, as it's very common and prone to conflict with other packages.

can confirm by removing spotifycontroller is fixes the issue

@ReneLu has updated the SpotifyControl plugin to no longer collide with this one. I still think #27 should be merged to avoid future issues, but I will close this issue for now.
