Certification Programs

Introduction

The program is administered by the non-profit OpenIPC Foundation. Certification funds are used for the development of the testing infrastructure, support of the OpenIPC project and driver developers.

Trusted Partner

OpenIPC Trusted Partner — a mark of trust for your equipment

The OpenIPC Trusted Partner program is designed for equipment manufacturers and vendors who confirm the highest level of compatibility, security and reliability of their devices with the OpenIPC ecosystem.

Why become a Trusted Partner?

The OpenIPC Trusted Partner status is more than just a certificate. It is public recognition that your hardware:

  • ✅ Is fully compatible with OpenIPC reference builds out of the box.
  • ✅ Has passed a security audit — no hidden backdoors, outdated components, or license violations.
  • ✅ Meets community quality standards: up-to-date SBOM, predictable driver behaviour, full update support.

How to obtain the status?

  • Submit an application — fill out the form on this page, indicating device models and technical specifications.
  • Pass automatic testing — our CI systems will check compatibility and correct functioning.
  • Audit (optional) — expert review of firmware security and licensing compliance.
  • Receive a certificate and a mark for placement on packaging, website and documentation.

Participation formats

  • OpenIPC Trusted Partner Bronze — automatic compatibility verification.
  • OpenIPC Trusted Partner Silver — basic security audit.
  • OpenIPC Trusted Partner Gold — full audit, priority technical support, placement on the project's main page.

Verified Hardware

OpenIPC Verified Hardware — equipment tested for compatibility

The OpenIPC Verified Hardware program is an official quality mark for devices guaranteed to work with OpenIPC firmware out of the box. No tweaks, hacks or surprises — just reliable full-power operation.

What does "Verified" mean?

We have personally tested your device (or you have completed a remote verification) and confirmed:

  • 🧩 Full support for all peripheral interfaces — Ethernet, Wi-Fi, audio, video, GPIO, IR backlight.
  • ⚡ Proper driver functionality on all supported kernel and rootfs versions.
  • 🔄 Ability to update over the air (OTA) without the risk of "bricking".
  • 📦 Clean licensing compliance — all built-in components have approved open-source and other compatible licenses.

How to get verification?

  • Submit an application specifying the equipment model and technical documentation.
  • Send a sample (or provide remote access) to our testing laboratory.
  • Run automated tests — a set of 200+ checks for all subsystems.
  • Receive a report and the right to use the Verified Hardware mark.

Verification levels

  • OpenIPC Verified Ready — basic compatibility (the device boots up, network and video work).
  • OpenIPC Verified Full — full compatibility of all interfaces and sensors.
  • OpenIPC Verified Pro — an extended report with recommendations for driver improvement.
