Missing contents table

Hi,it appears that the contents table of the pdf release for this book is missing.

It appears that this issue is with the source file as I have the same problem after compiling the pdf from source

Investigation / fix (LaTeX PDF)

Confirmed: the Green Tea Press / make pdf LaTeX build showed a Contents heading with no entries. The Quarto PDF already has a full TOC (separate pipeline).

Root cause: incomplete LaTeX runs left an empty .toc. On TeX Live 2025, listings with upquote=true hits \textquotedbl unavailable in encoding OT1 and aborts before \end{document}, so the .toc never gets written. The next successful-looking pass then typesets a blank Contents page. A ch05 exercise table also broke the build when \java{... && ...} appeared in a tabular (& is an alignment tab).

Fix (local, pending PR):

• Add \usepackage[T1]{fontenc} in latexonly.tex
• In that ch05 table, use delimiter-form \lstinline|...| / \lstinline+...+ for snippets containing & (same style as \java, which is already \lstinline)
• make pdf: three pdflatex -interaction=nonstopmode passes

After rebuild: populated Contents (Preface + chapters/sections), clean log.
